The countdown is on!
Mark 13 or Luke 21 -- read some of it from the Bible.
It seems like just yesterday that we celebrated Thanksgiving -- then came Hallowe'en and immediately the Christmas decorations went up on the neighbourhood homes because the weather has been so mild around the Niagara escarpment. The stores led the way with special light sales -- and of course -- Black Friday sales were held in some Canadian stores too, as our American neighbours celebrated Thanksgiving at the end of November!
Despite all the merriment, the suggested Gospel readings in the Bible strike a more 'sober' tone. Give some thought to the end of your life. Watch whom you follow or believe in during your daily busyness ... raise up your head when you hear of wars and suffering, 'for your redemption is drawing near'.
Even if we don't believe in God -- we can see that this prophecy about wars and great suffering has again come true in our time. We never know when mankind will carry its wars and torture and exploitation too far! -- I mean, to the point of self-destruction. Meanwhile, unnecessary & cruel suffering continues to harm God's most vulnerable people who can't escape these plagues!
* So the warning has gone out: to be faithful and to stand firm in our faith until the time of 'the Gentile' ends and the son of Man returns --
I love the Advent period before Christmas. It encourages us to put on the brakes in our busy lives and to listen to the prophecies about the coming Saviour -- but also, Advent encourages us to take time to prepare our heart for Him. To reflect on His agenda. To pray for a 'wobbling & suffering world'! * To tell others about the concerned and loving God we worship!
Perhaps you don't worship anywhere with any regularity? Take time and sit with your Bible and think about this -- and have a talk with God.
