"Why to this babe do angels sing. And why do treasure wise men bring? And why a crown about His head -- As shepherds worship at His bed? Who is this child     so sweet and mild? Is he a child or a king? ..."          (Tom Fettke and Ken Bible)

The words and the questions of this carol have occupied my mind ever since I first heard them. They are set to beautiful music which we have sung as part of the Christmas cantata we've shared with senior citizens and the community at Beamsville, Ontario these past weeks.
The message of a baby always brings sparkles to the eyes of elderly people -- probably they remember those happy days of being a child themselves or having a child in their arms.
Last week we were out and about ourselves, visiting with family, and we saw the new babies that have been born in our larger family circle these past months -- and it was a joy for us too; for my wife and myself, to remember those days now long ago --     My wife was never more beautiful than when she carried our children in her body.

God surely knew what He was doing when He sent his son in the form of a baby. If anyone has a heart at all; if anyone needs an opportunity to share some kindness -- if one has lost all confidence in humanity & needs to experience unconditional love: a child offers us unlimited opportunities to give and experience love!
The innocence of the child is the perfect example to lead us into a new relationship with God and oneanother. The beauty of a child reminds us that we were all once so beautiful on the outside -- but God cares for us still, because God also sees what is inside us -- and God knows whether we've lost all our innocence -- or whether we've asked Him for help so we will never lose that created beauty given by God!

It is one of the miracles of God's doing that He came to reclaim His world through a tiny child. Christmas is for children; it is for all of God's 'children' because it tells us over and over and over again that God has not forgotten us. God wants us to be His children and God wants to be our heavenly Father. There is no hidden message, no falsehood, no complex condition 'set by God' -- in the message of our Saviour, born in Bethlehem as a child. God placed his Son at our feet to see whether we will accept him and love him -- as He has accepted and loves us. "Christmas is a story of Love, Love that has come to us, Love that brightens our lives; and love is Jesus." (T. Fettke & K. Bible)

Have a wonderful Christmas. -- But if there is sadness in your life, share it with God too, for your heavenly Father is especially good at comforting his children.
